Letter from the President

Welcome to the Niños con Valor website!

The foundation Niños con Valor is a Christian organization located in Cochabamba, Bolivia, born out of the need for action by sensitive-hearted people who saw the socially disadvantaged situation that the children in this country, and particularly in Cochabamba, find themselves in. Unfortunately, the news about mistreatment and physical and sexual abuse is all too commonplace.

The foundation began by helping other projects that work with children, but very soon, we took on the challenge of working directly with a girls’ home which we called “Corazón del Pastor” which means Heart of the Shepherd. At present Corazón del Pastor is home to 18 girls between the ages of 5 and 14, who are receiving holistic care including health, education, the formation of moral and Christian values, and giving them back their value as children before the eyes of God.

Our restless spirit brings us to dream about new projects where we are able to reach out to more children and adolescents, and for this reason we are presently beginning a program for adolescent girls who are living with HIV/AIDS and come from a life on the streets. One of the long term objectives is for the girls to be able to return to those same streets, but this time as peer educators to work with girls in similar situations, giving them not only health education, but also a hope that they need not stay in their current situation.

But the great dream that we have is the Niños con Valor Village, Ciudadela Niños con Valor. While the main focus will be to provide many previously unavailable social and health services to the HIV+ children in our care, we also want to be able to integrate these children into the community. There is much ignorance and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS and we want to work toward breaking down those barriers. We trust in God that this great project will become a reality in the near future.
